Quick-witted seven-year-old Madison sees household
debris as building materials: she built her own functional
ATM, vending machine, and cash register all out of
cardboard. She frequents the trashcan for inspiration to
create gadgetry. Naturally inventive, Madison also
enjoys cooking with her mom, taking cues from her
favorite show, Master Chef Jr. Madison’s spunky nature
persists despite a vicious medical journey. In February
2016, Madison suffered weekly fevers, and the ER doctor
diagnosed her with a common infection. After that
treatment regimen failed, Madison’s pediatrician sent
her in for scans and a biopsy resulting in a diagnosis of a
rare coughing condition. Still unrelieved from treatments,
a second biopsy finally revealed the correct diagnosis of
anaplastic large cell lymphoma. Madison remained
strong and received news of remission in April 2017
meaning removal of her implanted chemo port.
Throughout this trying time, creativity and invention
brought Madison joy. When discovering her wish with
staff, Madison knew what she wanted: to be an inventor.
